Millie Shorted Listed for RBCC
Bernese Moutain Dog Club of Great Britain Championship Show
Saturday 26th Septmber 2015

This is the first time we've done this show for many years, as it's such a headache juggling showing in two rings at the same time. With Chloe now older and able to help and with it being a JHA Junior Handler Quailfier show we decided to enter and see how it went. As it was Vera stopped at home as completely out of coat, which helped with the class jumping.

First up was Bella who was in the bitch ring where she got a 3rd in Junior Bitch. Moments later George was in the dog ring in Junior Dog where he got a 2nd. Then Henry was in the dog ring in Post Graduate Dog where he got a 5th. There was then a break for lunch.

Fortunely the Limit Dog & Bitch classes were staggered starting after Lunch, as Millie was in the Bitch ring in Limit bitch where she won her class and then a dash to the Dog Ring for Bailey who was in Limit Dog where he got a 5th.

It wasn't many minutes before I was back in the ring with Millie for the Bitch Challenge, always so wonderful to be in a challenge. Millie showed her socks off and was down to the last three for the RBCC, sadly she didn't take the award but it was wonderful that we got so close.

During the lunch break was the JHA (Junior Handling Association) Junior Handling. Both Chloe and Abbie were in the 6 - 11 years class. Chloe handling George and Abbie handling Millie. Their Judge Leena Pawylszyn put the class though their paces and Chloe got a 1st and Abbie got a 2nd. Both girls have now qualified for the JHA Semi Finals 2016. In true Abbie style she made a fuss and the tears flowed, she's not very gracious loosing to her sister. Later Chloe took Best Junior Handler and was awarded a huge rosette and a trophy.

The event was super, the atmosphere so warm and friendly and the weather dry and sunny, well done to the club for hosting such a great show, which we'll be sure to support in the future. Thank you also to Jackie Shopland Reed for handling Bailey in Limit Dog until I could get to the Dog ring and for Chloe for being on standby to handle George in Junior Dog should I have not finished handling Bella in the Bitch ring. Thank you also to the two ring stewards who held classes to help those handlers who were showing in both rings.

Abbie Beats Chloe in YKC Junior Handling
Darlington Championship Show - Saturday 19th September 2015

What an exhausting day!! we were up at 3.30am and gone within the hour to Ripon Racecourse for Darlington Championship Show. Today the girls didn't have their Junior Handling YKC (Young Kennel Club) class until 2.30pm which was nice that it was after the breed classes.

Today to be fair wasn't one of our best show days, both Henry and Bailey weren't placed in their classes and Vera hurt herself so was withdrawn. However George got a 2nd in his Junior Dog Class. Bella got a 4th in her Junior Bitch Class and Millie showed her socks off and got a 2nd in her Limit Bitch Class.

The girls had their YKC Junior Handling at the other end of the show, so we moved the dogs to nearer benches. Both Chloe and Abbie were in the same YKC 6 - 11 Years class. The Judge Mr R Thomas had a lovely way with the children, clearly explaining what he wanted them to do and putting them at ease. In a class out of 8, Abbie got a 3rd with Millie and Chloe got a 5th with George.

On the way home the A1M was closed due to an accident so we had to dirvert via the M18 and M1. It took us 3 hours & 15 minutes to get to the show in the morning and 4 hours to get home in the evening. The venue was lovely and the weather warm and dry.

George & Bella Both Win Junior Classes
Richmond Championship Show
Saturday 12th September 2015

Today was one of those crazy show days. The benches weren't near to the show rings and the JHA Junior Handling Classes and the Breed Ring classes started at the same time but at opposite ends of the showground.

Because George was due to be in his breed class when Chloe would be in her JHA Junior Handling class and as there were less males entered in the classes before George's Junior Dog Class and many more Junior Handlers entered in Chloe's JHA class, we decided that Chloe would have to use Henry instead of George for her Junior Handling today. This decision didn't go down terribily well with Chloe who was having a job to handle Henry who just wanted to be with Philippa. However, when the girls made their way over to the Junior Handling ring and Philippa was out of the way, Henry started to behave himself espeically after Chloe pulled herself together and both Chloe & Henry started to work as a team.

Both Chloe and Abbie showed their dogs very well, Chloe with Henry and Abbie with Millie, the class had 12 handlers between 6 - 11 years so the competition was strong. Chloe was awarded a 4th but sadly Abbie wasn't placed, which didn't go down very well with Abbie and the tears flowed. However we brought her a special rosette as she'd done so well handling Millie in her class.

Meanwhile George had gone into his Junior Dog Class whilst Chloe was still in her Junior Handling class so it was just as well we'd changed which dog she was using today. George got a 1st and won his class.

Henry exhausted from Junior Handling got a 5th in Post Graduate Dog and Bailey got a 5th in Limit Dog. Then it was the bitch judging. Bella got a 1st in her Junior Bitch class and because Bella and Vera are now in the same class, Vera was shown in the older Yearling Bitch class where she got a 2nd. Which was FAB considering she is completely out of coat. Millie got a 3rd in her Limit Bitch class.

Bernese Moutain Dog Club of Great Britain Garden Party
Sunday 6th September 2015

What a super long weekend we had at the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain Garden Party held at Priors Marston Sports Club. We arrived by Friday lunch time and left just before noon on the Monday. The weather was super, warm and dry but with a nice breeze to help keep the Bernese cool. We took all eight of our Bernese and Lily our Lhasa Apso.

The rest of Friday was spent setting up base camp, errecting dog pens and making things just so for our long weekend away. The Saturday saw the girls practicing their 11 legged race entry and enjoying some freedom and as the agility ring was set up some agility practice for Lily our Lhasa Apso. In the evening the girls enjoyed the BBQ Party and entertainment put on by the club.

On Sunday was the Garden Party Fun/working day, it was great to see the Edward Family who have Honey from our Snow Litter and Jeanie who has Keela from our Irish Litter and Finley from our Russian Boys Litter, all three are Amy pups with Finley also being a Henry son.

As is traditional we laid on a buffet lunch for our families, as there was plenty to go round some prospective future Bernese puppy owners also joined us. Jeanie had made her famous and too yummy for words cakes and Michelle also brought along mouthwatering goodies.

The girls had a fantastic time doing all the fun classes and agility and running Philippa ragged who wsa making sure the girls had the correct dog ringside for the next class they were in.

It was super that the Junior Handling Classes were aged so that the girls weren't competing against each other in the same class. It meant that they both won their own classes, but it was a shame that there was no overall Best Junior Handler award on offer. Abbie won her 6 - 8 years class and Chloe won her 9 - 11 years class.

In the Fun Classes, the girls competed in nearly every class on offer, with Chloe getting 3rd with George in the Most Appealling Eyes Class, 3rd with George in the Markie & Spoon Race and 3rd with Millie in the Dog Most Like It's Owner Class. Abbie with Lily got a 4th in the Dog Most Like It's Owner Class, 5th with Lily in the Best Six Legs Class, 5th with Millie in the Waggiest Tail Class and 5th with Lily in the Markie & Spoon Race.

However the most practiced class was the 11 Legged Race, which the girls had practiced hard for over the weekend. The class was a take on the traditional 3 legged race but with both children holding a dog, hence the 11 legs. Chloe with Amy our Veteran and Abbie with Lily, they made for a great team and won the class. What was really nice was that they were both awarded a rosette, so they didn't have to share.

Lily our Lhasa Apso was a complete star as she was run ragged doing so much with the girls. Both of them wanted to compete in the non Bernese agilty with her and she more than happy to oblige running the course twice, one lap after the other. Chloe worked Lily on the agility course without a lead, where she could run with more speed, however a mistake on the weave and Lily jumping off the walk too soon, saw her pick up pentity points. Abbie with Lily on the lead, did a slower course however, she was fault free and in the end the results were. Abbie 3rd and Chloe 4th. Because the results were called 5th - 1st Abbie created thinking she'd been beaten by her Sister Chloe and it took quite some while for her to understand that actually she'd beaten her sister in the agility.

Philippa competed with Millie in the Beginners Agility, for Millie our 6 year old it was the first time she'd done agility and even though we weren't placed as not quick enough, she ran a super round. Philippa also had the delight of handling Amy our 8½ Year old Veteran in the Veteran parade, a true honour and delight.

It was great to see some of our puppy families, meet some of our Facebook Followers and prospective future Bernese puppy owners. A big thank you has to go to the very hard working GB Bernese Club committee for putting on such a great weekend. Thank you also for creating more fun and games for the girls to complete in. The girls were thrilled to bits with their rosettes and we were greatly relieved they collected a nice few each.

First's For Juniors George & Vera
Abbie Beats Chloe in JHA Junior Handling
Windsor Championship Show - Friday 3rd July 2015

Much better, we were showing as a family again today, just the way we love it. JHA Junior Handling was in the ring at 9am so we had to make sure we were at Windsor extra early. Being a Friday our journey had it's moments of being a tad slow, but Mervyn got us there with time to spare.

Abbie JHA Junior Handling with Millie

Abbie doubting her ability had slight confidence issues before going into the ring with Millie but she did a fantastic job. It's so difficult to match a Bernese to a Junior Handler even when they've been brought up with them, Abbie at 6 years old just isn't strong enough in mind or body to control a Bernese really well but Millie was very good with her, even though she kept looking for Philippa who was hiding up.

Chloe showed George and Abbie showed Millie, they both did a great job and the judge decided that Abbie should get a 4th and Chloe should get a 5th, which went down well with Abbie but less so with Chloe.

As is so often the case with Windsor Championship show, it was a hot day but we kept the dogs cool and we were done and on our home by lunch time, which was good.

Our Juniors George and Vera were on a roll today, as both won their classes. George won his Junior Dog Class and Vera won her Junior Bitch Class. Bella got a 2nd in her Puppy Bitch Class, with Henry getting a 3rd in his Post Graduate Class and Bailey also getting a 3rd in his Limit Dog Class. Millie got a 5th in her Limit Bitch Class.

Henry Best of Breed & George Reserve Best of Breed
The Royal Norfolk Show - Thursday 2nd July 2015

A glorious day welcomed us at the Norfolk Show ground for the Royal Norfolk Show, thankfully it wasn't as hot as the previous day as we'd probably not gone, as it would have been too hot for the Bernese. Saying that it was humid even at 8am. As there were only three classes on offer for Bernese, we took George, Henry & Millie.

8am - Humid & Sunny But The Dogs Kept Cool Under The Sun Umbrella
(L-R) Millie, Henry & George

We believe this was the first dog show we have done, since the girls were born, that we had done without them. Because it was so local Sister in Law was able to take and collect the girls from school for us. However, we missed them terribly and it wasn't the same showing without them. We are pretty unique in that we show as a family and attend shows altogether.

We weren't the first breed in the ring but absences in the breeds before us were high and it wasn't long before we were in the ring. Despite the heat the dogs were fine and showed beautifully. George was in the first class, Special Yearling Dog or Bitch, which he won. Henry was in the second class, Post Graduate Dog or Bitch, which he won. Millie was in the third class, Open Dog or Bitch, where she got a 3rd. George handled by Sally Reeve, thank you Sally, and Henry handled by Philippa went in to the Best of Breed Challenge with Henry taking Best of Breed and George taking Reserve Best of Breed.

We then waited many hours for the Working Group but Henry wasn't placed. Philippa just can't show without her jacket on, it really gave her an insight as to how a Bernese must feel when it's hot, the only difference was she could take her jacket off but they can't. It was great to meet up with old faces and meet new people.

Bailey Gains Stud Book Number
Southern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Championship Show
Maidstone, Kent - Sunday 14th June 2015

Abbie with Lily the Lhasa ApsoAn early start but a dry day and an easy journey to our venue at the Market Hall, Lockmeadow Market in Maidstone, Kent. We had our six Bernese show team and Lily our Lhasa Apso came along for the ride. Our Judge today was well known all rounder Mr Terry Munro (Stornum).

George got a 4th in his Junior Dog Class, at 12 months he was the youngest in his class with the other entrants so much older.

Henry was on top form again today and won his Post Graduate Dog Class. Totally love showing Henry, he loves a big ring to power around. Later on in the Dog Challenge he was short listed to the last three for the Reserve Challenge Certificate but missed out to the Veteran male. The Judge later wrote about Henry saying: Medium size, strength and balance with a good head. lovely eye colour and shape. Well bodied with strong neck and loin. Bone matching body with driving movement.

Bailey, WOW what a day he had. He won his Limit Dog Class which earned him his Stud Book number and in turn he's now Qualified for Crufts for LIFE! just felt bowled over by his success and so delighted. He was handled in the Dog Challenge by Top Handler Page Allen and looked super on the move. Bailey is our fourth homebred Bernese to win their Stud Book Number, all of which are Amy pups. To have two of our Bernese in the dog Challenge was wonderful and made us feel very proud of our boys. The Judge later wrote about Bailey saying: Good height and head shape but would prefer a little more length to body. Good breadth of head, well boned, good thighs, on good feet, a balanced mover.

(Left - Right) Philippa Showing George, Henry, Bailey & Millie

Bella went well in her Puppy Bitch class. Having had her confidence knocked a few shows back she stood well for our judge and got a 2nd in a strong class. The Judge later wrote about Bella saying: Taller, of good proportions, lovely dark eyes. She holds her topline and moves well but needs more
confidence.
Vera in a massive Junior Bitch class of 12 got a 4th, which was great. She was feeling tried today and really didn't want to run endless laps of the ring.

Millie was her usual silly, overly happy self and got a 2nd in Limit Bitch. She simply adored having a large ring to trot round and loved being able to trot and trot. A big ring is a true delight when handling a giant size breed. The Judge later wrote about Millie saying: Well proportioned with feminine head. Balanced quarters, good driving movement, active tail.

Henry Working Group 2 & Bella Puppy Working Group 3
Newmarket & District Canine Society Open Show - Littleport, Cambridgeshire
Saturday 13th June 2015

Thunder storms and heavy down pours were forecasted and the heavens opened as we left home, with the knowledge that the show was outdoors with no wet weather rings but being told by the Weather forecast men that the rain would be showers we drove though the rain and decided to risk attending the show. As it was the rain stopped and apart from the odd bit of drizzle the cloudy day was a great one and well worth the effort.

There were three classes on offer for Bernese, so we brought along three of our show team and entered one in each class. Bella won her Puppy Class. George then won his Graduate Class and then Henry won his Open Class. So in the challenge for Best of Breed, all the class winners were our dogs. Debbie Wells very kindly handled Bella for us, Chloe handled George and I handled Henry. Henry took Best of Breed and Bella took Best Puppy in Breed. Our breed judge was Mr Robet Taylor (Minaelea).

Later on in the Group judging, Henry represented the Bernese and took Working Group 2 which was amazing. Then Bella represented the Bernese in the Puppy Working Group and took Group 3. To get placed with one Bernese in Group Judging is amazing but to get placed with both was just a WOW moment. Our Group Judge was Mrs Janette Park (Rayjen).

In Junior Handling, Abbie was going to handle a super Lhasa Apso but unfortunately breed judging clashed with the Junior Handling Association Judging and in the end Abbie had to use Bella instead. Bella living up to precious reputation gave Abbie was a bit of a handful and she got a 5th. However Chloe handling George got a 3rd and this qualified Chloe with George for the Junior Handling Association Semi Finals. Which is just wonderful, a real achievement!! Our JHA Judge was: Kerry Frosdick (Kalwig).

Thirds All Round at Three Counties Championship Show
Three Counties Showground, Malvern
Thursday 4th June 2015

4am Start this morning got us to Malvern by 8am, despite some confusion about Night Closures our journey there was incident free. On the way home we got in a muddle coming off the M6 onto the A14 when some lovely truck driver went down the side of our Van with his mirror instead of letting us in.

(L-R) Philippa Showing George, Bailey, Bella & Millie

Amazing weather welcomed us in Wales, super, bright, warm sunny day. A lovely grassy ring for Bernese, with white fencing as later it would be the Best In Show Ring. Our judge today was Andrew Brace, who wore the most super jacket (I'd love a female version for showing). Because Henry was poorly he couldn't be shown today, so we just took, George, Bailey, Bella, Vera and Millie.

Philippa showing GeorgePhilippa showing BaileyPhilippa showing BellaPhilippa showing Vera

(L-R) Philippa Showing George, Bailey, Bella & Vera

George was in his very first Junior Dog Class, the youngest by many months and got a 3rd. Bailey was in Limit Dog and also got a 3rd. Bella got a 3rd in her Puppy Bitch Class. Vera was in her very first Junior Bitch Class, like George she was a lot younger than the others and in a big class sadly didn't get placed. Millie was in Limit Bitch and got a 3rd. Sadly with 3rd's you don't get a write up from the judge, but overall we had a lovely day and as we had another breed and two stake classes using the same ring after us, judging was all over and done with quickly, which made for an early arrival time home.

Happy 8th Birthday Meg (Pasturegreen Heartbreaker)
28th May 2015

Meg (Pasturegreen Heartbreaker) at 8 Years OldCongratulations and Many Happy Returns of the Day to Meg who today celebrates her 8th Birthday. Meg was from our first Bernese Sophie's second litter, sired by Champion Fortonpark G'Day Bruce.

Meg is not only the only surviving puppy from her Mother Sophie but also the only surviving puppy from our Bee Gee litter. She is the oldest Pasturegreen bred Bernese to date.

We very much look forward to seeing Meg in August along with her family at the Scottish Bernese Club Championship Weekend.

Millie Reserve Best In Show & George Reserve Best Puppy In Show
Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show
Sunday 24th May 2015

Mr Joe Smith from Mowgli, pictured with Philippa & Millie who was Reserve Best In Show. What a wonderful day we had at Overseal Village hall for the Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open show and Companion Show. We took all nine of our Dogs; 8 Bernese and 1 Lhasa Apso, as the girls wanted to compete in all the Companion Show classes and we couldn't leave our Anna at home on her own.

The judge for the Open show was Mr Joe Smith from Mowgli, pictured Left with Philippa & Millie (Fortonpark Millie My Love At Pasturegreen) who was Reserve Best In Show.

Chloe showing Amy (Malynncastle Ambriel At Pasturegreen) 8 Years Old, in the Companion ShowThe atmosphere at this show is always friendly and because one can park near the rings it means one can use the van as a base, which makes handling multiple dogs in multiple classes so much easier.

Jeanie who owns Finley and Keela came along and once again I was given the delight of handling her dogs, that we bred, in the open show. Jeanie is the Queen of Cakes and came laiden with wonderful delights, for which we were most grateful.

George (Bernsego Jack Vorobey At Pasturegreen) got 1st in his Puppy Dog Class, later he got Best Male Puppy and at the end of the open show got Reserve Best Puppy in Show. This was George's last show as a puppy, so what a wonderful way to leave his puppy classes. The judge later wrote about George saying: 11 months old. Balanced head with dark eye and correct bite, strong neck and reasonable front angles. Very good bone and substance, looked good in profile. Good pasterns and feet. Best Puppy Dog.

Henry (Millenium Star Email of Happiness At Pasturegreen) got 1st in his Post Graduate Dog Class. I love this dog, so much fun to handle, so male. Later on in the Dog Challenge, Chloe handled him and what a wonderful job she did too. The Judge later wrote about Henry saying: 2 year male. Good male
head, correct balance between skull and muzzle, sufficient stop, dark eye, strong under jaw and good bite. Confident mover and great temperament.

Bailey (Pasturegreen Irish Cream) got 4th in his Limit Dog Class. Bella (Kibou De Neboa De Meigas At Pasturegreen) got a 2nd in her Minor Puppy Bitch class. The Judge later wrote about Bella saying: 8 months and much more advanced than winner, Typical in outline having good bone and substance, something spooked her and was difficult to assess.

Vera (Millenium Star J'Adore Dior At Pasturegreen) got a 2nd in her Puppy Bitch Class. The judge later wrote about Vera saying: 11 months. Body wise she is quite pleasing, her head at this stage is a little plain and will develop further. Confident mover with good temperament. Jeanie's Keela (Pasturegreen Irish Beauty) got a 2nd in her Post Graduate Bitch class. She's an Amy pup and little sister to our Bailey.

Millie (Fortonpark Millie My Love At Pasturegreen) got a 1st in her Limit Bitch class. She then took Best Bitch in the bitch challenge and then went on to take Reserve Best In Show. Millie is so full of happiness, loves to wag her tail non stop in the ring and loves to watch my every move. She completely belittles her years and acts more like a bouncy puppy than an almost 6 year old. The Judge later wrote about Millie saying: 6 years old, a showing clown. Superb temperament, she never stopped showing for one minute. Full of Bernese type, loved her size and balance. Super feminine head with dark eye and strong muzzle. Clean front. On the stack she is so exuberant she lifts her tail too high but her tail set and croup are good. She has good angles front and rear allowing her an easy, fluid gait. Best Bitch and Reserve Best In Show.

Chloe with George (Bernsego Jack Vorobey At Pasturegreen) got 2nd in the AV 6 - 12 Month Puppy Class. Chloe then showed Lily our Lhasa in the AV Adult Class and Amy our over 8 year old Veteran in the AV Veteran but Amy being Amy didn't want to trot and so Chloe didn't get placed in either class.

We had a wonderful day and went home with many rosettes and shields, thoroughly enjoying Jeanie's cakes as we travelled homeward bound.

Grateful thanks must to go to the hard working committee for putting on such a great open show and companion show, I know that the four of us and all the dogs had a wonderful day.

Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain Garden Party
18th May 2015

What a wonderful four days we had in Warwickshire for the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain Garden Party. The venue was super, weather was wonderful and the atmosphere so friendly and fun. We took all eight of our Bernese and Lily our Lhasa Apso. Bertha our Caravan was once again the most wonderful travelling companion with all her great facilities. Annoyingly we forgot one pen and one gate for our awning so the dogs instead of being penned in twos, we had three pens, two of two and one of four.

The girls, Chloe & Abbie. Had the opportunity to learn how to do agility. It was their first time competing in agility and Lily's first time too. So the three of them learned together. It was super that we had a chance to practice on the Saturday in readiness for the agility competition on the Sunday. As it was Chloe got a 4th and Abbie got a 5th in the Agility Class for Non Bernese.

On Sunday we had Bentley's Family, Finley's Family and Leila's Family join us for a buffet lunch. It was so wonderful to have the Russian Boys back together, they are out of our Amy and sired by our Henry. Finley is so much like Amy and Bentley is so much like Henry, which is lovely. It was also lovely to see Amy's daughter Leila, who's Anna's litter Sister. Usually we have more families join us at such events but so many had children sitting exams this time.

As so often is the case at such events Philippa was rushing around like crazy ensuring the girls had the dog or dogs they wanted to compete in the classes they wished to compete in. The classes were very well supported and large in numbers.

Bentley and Danni were encouraged into the ring and did three classes. Bentley got 2nd in Most Handsome Dog Class, didn't get placed in the Dog With The Most Appealling Eyes Class but got a 4th in the Best Six Legs Class.

Bentley in the Ring with Danni

For a nice change the girls were in different Junior Handling Classes. Chloe who is almost 9 went in the older 9 - 11 years class whereas Abbie was in the 6 - 8 years class. Chloe with George got a 2nd in their class and Abbie with Lily got a 3rd in her class. For some reason when Abbie competes in Junior Handling she more often than not forgets what she's supposed to do, too busy smiling and cuddling the dog.

Abbie and Lily got a 4th in the Prettiest Bitch Class out of what must have been 30+ mostly Bernese bitches. Chloe got a 2nd with George in the Best Six Legs Class. In the Party Trick Class, Lily didn't want to wave her front legs as she normally does so Abbie didn't get placed but Vera did her hug with Chloe and they got a 5th place.

Vera, George and Bella were all in the puppy parade, I'm not sure if anyone else had three unrelated puppies in the parade from different counties as we did? it sure was super to have them all together. Later Philippa was very proud to parade Amy around the Golden Oldies parade, what an honour it is to have a Golden Oldie Bernese over 7 years old. In Amy's case she's eight & quarter years old.

Later on Amy and Henry both did their Character Assessments. Amy passed with an excellence, the bombproof old girl didn't blink an eyelid at any of the tests. Henry also passed but didn't get an excellence, unfortunately for him he wasn't overly keen on befriending the man who opened the umbrella in his face as we walked by, but could you really blame him? apart from that he excelled at all the other tests.

We had the most wonderful long weekend away working the dogs. It was super to meet up with like minded people and wonderful for the girls to do as much as they wanted competing with the dogs. Thank you to the committee for putting on such a great event, there must have been several hundred people and dogs on the Sunday, so a great event for those looking to own a Bernese in the future.

McKenzie (Pasturegreen Irish Prince at Bernervalley)

Massive Congratulations to the Benson Family on getting the Reserve Dog CC at the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show with McKenzie (Pasturegreen Irish Prince At Bernervalley).

McKenzie is an Amy puppy, born in our Irish Litter and litter brother to our Bailey.

McKenzie lives in Northern Ireland with his family and as a puppy lived with his Father Harvey, who sired our Irish Litter.

McKenzie is currently on six Green Stars needing just one more to be become an Irish Champion. He is already a Junior Champion in Ireland.

Visiting Bernese for Grooming
11th & 12th May 2015

This week we've had Katie, Merlin & Bentley come and visit us for grooming and bath time. All three are out of our Amy from her Halloween Litter. Both brothers are neutered and have enormous coats, which take consider effort to de-tangle. As heavy mature boys they weigh in around 65kg a piece. Katie their litter sister also has a large mature coat but is lighter in weight. All three were very well behaved and a pleasure to have here. It's a shame that they are unable to attend the forthcoming GB Bernese club Garden Party.

George Best Puppy in Breed
Birmingham National Championship Show
Thursday 7th May 2015

4am Start with arrival to Stafford Showground at 8am made for a long day, especially as the girls had Junior Handling before 9am and breed judging started at 9am. Our Judge was Breed Specialist Janet Riseborough (Moonbach). We took our 2015 show team which comprises of; George, Henry, Bailey, Bella, Vera and Millie.

George Best Puppy in Breed at Birmingham National Championship ShowGeorge Best Puppy in Breed at Birmingham National Championship ShowGeorge Best Puppy in Breed at Birmingham National Championship ShowGeorge Best Puppy in Breed at Birmingham National Championship Show

George winning Best Puppy in Breed

George (Bernsego Jack Vorobey at Pasturegreen) won his Puppy Dog Class, later taking Best Male Puppy after beating the winner of the Minor Puppy Dog Class and at the end of the breed judging took Best Puppy in Breed by beating the Best Bitch Puppy. What a massive honour and so wonderful for George that finally he'd taken the top puppy award available in the breed. It's five years since our Katie (Pasturegreen Bewitched) took the exact same award at this show. Our Judge Janet Riseborough later wrote about George saying: 11 month youngster, well up on his legs and angulations are very good for this age, of course needs to deepen in chest as he gets older. Has a very handsome head with gorgeous dark eyes of the correct shape. Nice skull and ear set. Gentle, but strong neck, sloping shoulders and good top line which he held on the move. Lovely animated character, really showing every minute and enjoying his day.

Henry (Millenium Star Email of Happiness at Pasturegreen) got a 5th in his Post Graduate Dog class. Bailey (Pasturegreen Irish Cream) got a 3rd in his Limit Dog Class which qualified him for Crufts 2015. Bella (Kibou De Neboa De Meigas At Pasturegreen) got a 3rd in her Minor Puppy Bitch Class. Vera (Millenium Star J'Adore Dior at Pasturegreen) got a 3rd in her Puppy Bitch Class and Millie (Fortonpark Millie My Love at Pasturegreen) got a 3rd in her Limit Bitch Class.

4th Chloe & Henry in YKC Junior Handling

Chloe & Abbie had YKC Junior Handling. Because our classes clashed, Chloe used Henry for her Junior Handling class, where she got a 4th. Abbie and Bella were unfortunately not quite working as a team again. I think Abbie needs to be a wee bit stronger and more exciting so that Bella will take more notice of her and find everything around her less exciting. At six however Abbie is learning her handling skills as Chloe had to. Bernese aren't exactly small and easy to handle sometimes even by adults, let alone children.

Great Day at Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain
Open Show - Sunday 19th April 2015

What a Fantastic Day we had today at Grenoside Community Centre for the BMDC of GB Open Show. Our main breed judge for today was Sandra Hallam from Oldberne and our Judge for the Junior Handling and Members Special Award Classes was James Thompson.

We took six of our Bernese; George, Henry, Bailey, Bella, Vera and Millie, this is our 2015 show team. We entered the dogs in 14 classes and the girls both did Junior Handling and we got placed in every class, we came home with four 1st prizes, five 2nd prizes, three 3rd prizes, two 4th prizes and the girls got 2nd & 3rd in their Junior Handling Class.

George (Bernsego Jack Vorobey at Pasturegreen) our Russian Import had a super day getting 2nd in Puppy Dog, 2nd in Dog Not Bred By Exhibitor, 2nd with Chloe in Junior Handling & 4th with Chloe in the Special Members Awards Junior Class. Our breed judge wrote about George saying: Another lovely happy puppy. Good body proportions, adequate bone for size.  Good head with kind expression. Moved well.

Henry (Millenium Star Email of Happiness at Pasturegreen) our first Russian Import had a super day winning not only his Graduate Dog class with Philippa but also his Special Members Award Post Graduate class later with Chloe. He's so male is Henry, a super maturing boy. Our breed judge wrote about Henry saying: 2 years, nicely proportioned.  Excellent head with kind dark eye and good ear carriage. Super front with chest developing well, well angulated front and rear, moving well.  Beautifully marked and superbly presented. Looks to me like a slow maturing dog but could be worth the wait.

Bailey (Pasturegreen Irish Cream) had a large amount of competition in his Post Graduate Dog Class where he got a 1st, he was later handled in the Dog Challenge by Lianne Marsden. Our breed judge wrote about Bailey saying: For 3 years still looking a little immature. Good head with kind expression. Well boned with lovely tight feet. Good topline. Front a little narrow. Good hind angulation.  A very happy dog on the move.

Bella (Kibou De Neboa De Meigas At Pasturegreen) our Spanish import was all legs and eyes today, finding the whole event most entertaining and provided a little more than a handful for poor Abbie in her Junior Handling Class, however she still got a 3rd. She gained a 3rd in her Minor Puppy Bitch class with Philippa and a 4th in the Special Members Award Puppy Class with Chloe. Our breed judge wrote about Bella saying: Looks like this young lady is in a leg growing phase. Good head with characteristic expression, correct ear carriage and dark eye. Also seemed a little unsettled, moved well in front but close behind. Presented in immaculate condition.

Vera (Millenium Star J'Adore Dior at Pasturegreen) our Russian Import Girl got a 2nd in her Puppy Bitch class and 2nd in Bitch Not Bred By Exhibitor. Vera seems to be settling in to this showing lark and was more of a joy to show today. Our breed judge wrote about Vera saying: Very pretty bitch with good proportions and a great attitude. A little light in bone and loose in pasterns and moving close behind.  Still very young and should improve with maturity.

Millie (Fortonpark Millie My Love at Pasturegreen) got a 1st in Limit Bitch and a 3rd with Chloe in the Special Members Award Open Class. Such a handful to show, just too happy. Our breed judge wrote saying: If there was a rosette for the dog the judge would like to take home this pretty girl would be the one. She oozed Bernese character and the happiest dog of the day.  Excellent head, skull and muzzle, using her ear carriage to full effect for expression.  Lovely body shape with good front and well sprung rib, would like to see more drive in her movement. Pushed hard for my attention in the final line up.

Chloe was the star of the day, she not only handed George in her own Junior Handling Class but she then went on to do four back to back Special Member Award Classes with four different dogs of which she won, one class.

Also at the show Henry, Bailey & Millie were all tested for DM which was done most generously by the Club, we are not sure when we shall have the results but we hope all three dogs are clear.

Another wonderful show, exhausting but great fun, well done Committee!

Northern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Championship Show
Saturday 21st March 2015
All the Puppies Qualified for Crufts 2016

After an early start and an easy journey we arrived at Snaith Sports Centre for the NBMDC Championship Show. It was pretty chilly and the wind was blowing. After starting to unload we found that someone had poo'd in the back of the van and in their excitement five of our spotlessly clean Bernese was walking around in it, this is like a worse nightmare situation. Luckily we were able to tie all the dogs up nearby and coming well equipped soon sorted the situation.

Our judge today was the Swedish breed specialist Mr. Svante Frisk. George (Bernsego Jack Vorobey at Pasturegreen) was first in the ring in Puppy Dog, whereupon he was placed 2nd which qualified him for Crufts 2016. The judge wrote about George saying: 9 months, good proportions although a little leggy today. Strong masculine head with good expression. Nice topline, quite good bone and substance, needs to be stronger in pasterns.  Good body shape for age, well marked.

Then it was Henry's (Millenium Star Email of Happiness at Pasturegreen) turn in the ring where he was shown in Post Graduate Dog, where he got a 4th. Then Bailey (Pasturegreen Irish Cream) was shown in a big Limit Dog class but wasn't placed.

During the lunch break it was the Junior Handling. Abbie and Chloe were both in the 6 - 11 years class. Abbie with Bella and Chloe with George competed in the same class. For Bella this was her very first show and Abbie was handling her in the ring before Philippa had shown her in her breed class. Abbie got a 2nd place and Chloe got a 3rd place, their judge was Mr Dave Jefferson.

Then it was Bella's (Kibou De Neboa De Meigas At Pasturegreen) first breed class where she got a 3rd in Minor Puppy Bitch and qualified for Crufts 2016. The judge wrote about Bella saying: 6 months, just a little leggy for the moment. Good head type but needs a little more self confident expression. Good topline and angulation in the rear, front pasterns could be firmer, just crabbing a little when moving. Nice temperament and colour.

Then Vera (Millenium Star J'Adore Dior at Pasturegreen) was in Puppy Bitch and got a 3rd in her class and she too qualified for Crufts 2016. The judge wrote about Vera saying: 9 months, quite good proportions, little leggy today. Good head type but it needs to be a little drier. Enough neck, good topline, long in loin, good angulation in rear enough in front. Could use more bone to advantage, needs more balance in movement.  Good coat and colour.

Then it was Millie's (Fortonpark Millie My Love at Pasturegreen) turn to show, she's not shown since September 2013 so she was very excited and loved her time in the ring, she was in a big Limit class, still out of coat and wasn't placed. However she has her Stud Book number so is already qualified for Crufts.

It was the 30th anniversary show for the club and every exhibitor was given a goodie bag. Ours was fantastic and so thoughtfully put together for there was enough goodies for the four of us and someone had been so thoughtful to have given us enough dog treats for all nine of our dogs and had even put in some tiny dog treats for Lily our Lhasa Apso, which we all though was super.

After a slight delay on the A1M we got home just over 12 hours after we'd left that morning, feeling rather tried to be welcomed to Amy, Anna and Lily who'd been looked after all day by Sister in Law.

Bentley (Pasturegreen Broomstick)
10th March 2015

Today we had the pleasure of the Howard Family's Bentley, who came for a groom, trim, wash and dry. Bentley is out of Amy's first litter the Halloween Litter. Such a super big lad he's matured into and with the most wonderful temperament which he has certainly inherited I'm sure from his Mother Amy.

Crufts - NEC Birmingham
Friday 6th March 2015

Always so wonderful to qualify one's Bernese for Crufts and be part of the world's biggest and most prestige dog show. We had five of our Bernese qualified and entered for Crufts this year. If we count McKenzie (Pasturegreen Irish Prince at Bernervalley) bred by us but owned by the Benson's in Ireland, as it was his family were unable to attend this year. Millie (Fortonpark Millie My Love at Pasturegreen) came into season a few days before Crufts and therefore was unable to go either. So we just took our Russian imported Bernese; Henry and puppies; George & Vera.

George at Crufts 2015George at Crufts 2015George at Crufts 2015

George got a 5th in his class but neither Henry nor Vera were placed, which is very unusual. The classes at Crufts can be so large, but the noise and sheer number of people can upset the dogs and make them less settled than usual in the show ring. One has to remember that just getting to Crufts and showing there is an achievement in it's self.

Henry at Crufts 2015Henry at Crufts 2015Henry at Crufts 2015

It was wonderful to meet so many Bernese loving people and to catch up with many Bernese friends, a real sociable day out, but extremely exhausting. We took the coach back to the East 2 car park, as Philippa got to get off the coach the doors closed behind her and two of our three dogs were trapped on the coach. Luckily everyone on the bus shouted at the driver and no hard was done. As my Grandpa would say, sometimes it's best not to over think things after such a random event.

Philippa's Birthday Trip to Aldeburgh
27th February 2015

Well the sun was certainly shining today to celebrate Philippa's birthday. So off to Thorpeness and Aldeburgh we went. The girls went to school and our three Bernese puppies; Bella, Vera & George and old girl Amy came with us for a bit of socialising and a day out. First a run on the beach at Thorpeness and a visit to the boating lake to see the swans, followed by a cup of tea outside the Ice Cream shop in Aldeburgh and then Fish & Chips for lunch, what a wonderful way to spend one's birthday!

Amy Celebrates her 8th Birthday
23rd February 2015

Happy Eighth Birthday AmyHappy 8th Birthday to our beloved Amy. Amy is the oldest Bernese we've ever had here at Pasturegreen, so it's quite a day for both of us. Amy was from the last litter that her Father CH Fortonpark It's Otto JW ever sired and what an amazing lad he was. She was from her Mother Angel's only litter. Amy has been the most amazing bitch to own over the past eight years. She's had four truly beautiful litters and even though two of her 23 children have since passed over the Rainbow Bridge, she's still here, fit and healthy and long may it continue.

Happy 8th Birthday AmyAmy is the alpha of our pack and has been since she was around a year old, still demands complete respect from our eight Bernese and Lhasa Apso and won't tolerate badly behaved puppies or over excitable males.

Amy is still very young in herself, she can act most silly and very puppy like and when in hot pursuit after a rabbit or deer still can out run the others.

Most of the time Amy much prefers to do nothing, or do things in her own time at her own speed, which usually means not keeping up with the pack on a walk, but reappearing like she must have flown at some point? The more you want Amy to do something, the less lightly it is for her to do it for she can be very stubborn.

In her time Amy was the top intermediate carting dog in the country, she's shown and been placed at Crufts, she's had a show career, a long carting career, been a fantastic Mother and got her Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards in Bronze, Silver & Gold, she is a complete darling.

So we raise a glass to Amy today on her 8th Birthday and hope she continues in good health for a long time yet.

Southern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show
Sunday 8th February 2015

Today we headed off to Leatherhead Leisure Centre for the Southern BMDC Open Show. It's a venue we've shown at so many times over the years.

George was in Minor Puppy Dog and won his class, he's such a joy to show and very well behaved for one so young. The Judge John McNulty from Bernhaven wrote later saying: Bernsego Jack Vorobey At Pasturegreen (RUS IMP) 8 months, good outline, head developing well. Good neck and shoulders, even topline. Decent all round movement, happy puppy.

Henry was in Graduate Dog, he's still out of coat and getting back into showing and got a 2nd. Bailey who is all leg at the moment and needing to fill his frame got a 4th in his Post Graduate Class and Vera got a 2nd in her Minor Puppy Bitch class. The Judge wrote later about Vera saying: Millenium Star J`Adore Dior At Pasturegreen (RUS IMP)  8 months, liked her head, well defined stop. Happy puppy enjoying herself immensely.

Family Trip to Aldeburgh, Suffolk
Sunday 25th January 2015

What better place to go than Aldeburgh, Suffolk as a family to socialise our new puppies; Vera & George from Russia and Bella from Spain. Of course Lily our Lhasa Apso had to come along too. First stop was the famous Fish & Chip shop, then a walk though town to sit outside the famous Ice Cream shop which is great for the pups and then a wander back exploring the sea, shingle beach and stopping to meet many more people and dogs. There was an exhibition of classic cars to wander around and the pups spent more time being stroked and admired than wandering, which is so often the case.

Manchester Championship Show
Saturday 17th January 2015

Our first Championship show of the year and off to Stafford Showground we went for Manchester Championship Show. It's the first time we've done this show, we've entered a few times but due to bad weather never actually shown at this show until now.

Having not shown last year until December, this was our last chance to qualify for Crufts 2015. Millie has her Stud Book number so is qualified for Crufts for life but I was hoping to qualify at least one more of our dogs.

As it happened we qualified three of our dogs today, which was fantastic.

George was first in the ring in Minor Puppy Dog where he got a 2nd out of six in a strong puppy class, qualifying for Crufts 2015. The judge Steve Hall later wrote about George saying: Bernsego Jack Vorobey At Pasturegreen (RUS IMP)  Another very nice dog of stature, but not quite the presence of winner or length of neck. Well headed with a good expression. Good, firm mover and prepared and presented in very good order.

Henry was in Post Graduate Dog where he got a 3rd so qualifying for Crufts 2015. Bailey was in Limit Dog where he got a 5th, such a grown up class for such a young dog. It was a shame he didn't qualify.

GeorgeBaileyChloe & Abbie having lunch

Vera was in Minor Puppy Bitch, where upon she won her first class at her first show out of six strong and more experienced puppies than herself. To say I was thrilled was an understatement and she too qualified herself for Crufts 2015. The judge later wrote about Vera saying: Millenium Star J'adore Dior At Pasturegreen (RUS IMP)  A very honest bitch who pleased in many departments. Very feminine to view, good head qualities. Good length of neck. Lovely bodily condition for age. Positive mover in both directions, presented in good clean order.
