Katie is the litter sister of our Merlin. She is very much like her Mother Amy, with plenty of bounce and character. She is the largest bitch that we've ever reared and is a big girl! Her father is top winning Champion Jaybiem UTwo JW ShCM.
Katie started her show career at Birmingham National Championship Show on 9th May 2010 where she won Best Puppy In Breed, at her second show she won Best Puppy In Show at the Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show she was then Reserve Best Puppy in Breed at Bath Championship Show having been beaten by her litter Brother Merlin who took the title of Best Puppy in Breed. At her fourth show she won Best Puppy in Breed at Southern Counties Championship Show.
Katie qualified herself for Crufts 2011 at her very first show and also gained her Bronze Good Citizen Kennel Club Award at 6 months at the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain. She achieved her Silver Kennel Club Award at 8 months at the Southern Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain. she had also been doing well in Bernese obedience competitions.
Tragically Katie's teeth moved as a 7½ month old puppy and she was unable to be shown anymore, she will always be known as the Champion that never was. She stayed here at Pasturegreen until after her 2nd birthday but wasn't keen to work.
Katie was born to be a show dog, she loved nothing more than going to shows and showing. When Katie no longer could be shown she became very unhappy being left at home with some of the others knowing full well that some of the pack were showing that day.
With a tooth fault she could never be a mother even though she's a stunning Bernese with good hips and elbows, bone, size and temperament, such a fault would breed though into future generations.
In January 2012 we made the very painful decision but right one for Katie to ask our good friends the Brewers who have Katie's litter brother Merlin if they'd give her a good home. They agreed and Katie went to live with her other litter brother Merlin on Tuesday 10th January 2012 who also live in Norfolk. Having a fantastic nature she is now enjoying her life to the full, galloping about on the beach each day, swimming in the sea and getting spoilt rotten by the Brewer children. She will continue to make many appearances at Bernese club events all over the country in the fun classes.
For us it broke our hearts to re home Katie but for Katie it was the best thing that could have happened to her. We still see her monthly and hear all about her life and every so often she comes to Pasturegreen to have a good wash and tidy up on the grooming table.
