Today our Harvey (Pasturegreen SOS) is Six Years Old. Harvey is the oldest of our Bernese here at Pasturegreen and the Great Uncle of them all. Never a father himself he proves to be a very loyal and loving Great Uncle towards them all, that is once he's got used to having new baby puppies around.
Harvey and us all here at Pasturegreen were in for a super treat on Sunday for over night we'd had five inches of snow. For Bernese it's a homecoming when there is snow on the ground and with their semi web feet they are very sure footed in the white stuff.
Bernese seem to be quite wild when their paws are on snow and all our Bernese were revved up and full of mischief, having a fantastic time galloping about and playing.
We took our five older Bernese out with the girls on their sledge and later took our young pup Bailey who's 13 weeks old out for a short wander so that he too could have a play without getting knocked over by his wild older family members.
Those of our Team Pasturegreen families who had snow were kind enough to send us their snowy pictures to see our 2012 Team Pasturegreen Snow Feature click the link below:
After many months of careful consideration regarding our beloved Katie it was decided that she'd have a more exciting and fulfilling life if she went to live with our good friends the Brewers who own her litter brother, the other Merlin.
Katie had an amazing start to her show career in 2010, winning several Best Puppy in Breed awards at her first few Championship shows and was totally unbeaten, but then suddenly overnight her teeth moved, it was tragic for her show career was over in an instant. If there was ever a puppy born for the show ring it was Katie, she just loved everything about being shown, a true performer. She will always be known as the Champion that never was.
During 2011 we tried to encourage Katie to take to carting so that she could have a working career and it would give her something to do, but she wasn't keen. For Katie to be left at home when others went showing came as a hardship for her and made her unhappy. Katie had it all, size, construction, temperament,
movement and it would have been lovely to have had a litter from Katie but with her teeth as they were it was deemed not a sensible move and so it was decided that Katie would probably be much happier living in a pet home where she'd get a lot more one to one attention. For us it's the first time that any puppy kept by us has been re homed later on in life but for us we don't feel as if we've lost Katie more that she's gone to live with our good friends and is having a better quality of life. Sometimes one has to do the right thing for the dog and be unselfish in one's own wants.
We thank our good friends the Brewers for agreeing to have Katie and for giving her a good life and for changing their initial plans on their second Bernese. Katie will still be out and about at Bernese club working and fun events having a great time doing lots of fun classes with the Brewer children and of course living so near we'll get to see and her brother Merlin lots too.
We miss Katie terribly but we are comforted in the knowledge that we've done the right thing for Katie and we know that she's having a great time with the Brewers, for which we are very grateful.
New Baby Here at Pasturegreen
Pasturegreen Irish Cream aka Bailey
Bailey is from our Amy's last litter, the Irish litter, sired by Irish Champion Kinelarty Midnight Star Gaze aka Harvey.
Bailey is our 8th Bernese puppy to be reared by us here at Pasturegreen. He has a super calm nature and is very well behaved.
Here is Bailey pictured at 8 weeks, he's very much like our Merlin, his half brother, also an Amy pup in that he likes to doze and eat and isn't too demanding for attention.
We excitedly look forward to the future with Bailey who we hope to show from six months of age.
