at Midland Counties Champ Show - Thursday 25th October 2012

Yogi with Sharon at Midland Counties Champ ShowWe are so thrilled to announce that Yogi aka Pasturegreen Snow Storm, our Anna's litter brother from our Snow Litter, today qualified for Crufts 2013.

This was Yogi's only appearance in the show ring since he got a 5th in Speical Junior Dog at Crufts back in March 2012.

Today Yogi got a 1st in Yearling Dog and then went on to get a 2nd in Post Graduate Dog, therefore qualifying himself twice for Crufts 2013.

Huge Congratulations to Yogi's Family, Sharon and Dave.

Yogi is the sixth Pasturegreen Bernese to have qualified for Crufts 2013.

On Sunday 14th October, the Hay family took their beloved Leila (an Amy pup from the Snow Litter) to Roade for the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain Working Day event. This event enables everyone to have a go at things they might not have tried before with their Bernese, like Agility. After some expert help from Nicola Whyatt, Leila handed by Mum Louise went on to win their very first Bernese Agility competition.

Great Day at Southern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show
Sunday 7th October 2012

Bailey aka Pasturegreen Irish CreamToday we went to Leatherhead Leisure Centre for the Southern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show. As usual the venue was freezing cold but very friendly and it was great to meet up with lots of friends.

We only showed Bailey, Merlin and Millie as Anna is still in season and very much out of coat.

Bailey got a 2nd in Puppy Dog, 3rd in Junior Dog & 1st in Novice Dog. Merlin got a 2nd in Limit Dog and a 1st in Breeders Dog and Millie got a 4th in a large Limit Bitch class.

The Brewer's Katie - Pasturegreen Bewitched
Sunday 16th September 2012 - Win's BEST IN SHOW at
Dog Fun Day at Ormesby St Margaret in aid of Canine Partners

Katie had an outstanding career as a young puppy with us here at Pasturegreen but sadly her show career was tragically cut short and she became very unhappy not being shown. She went to live with our good friends the Brewers in January 2012 where she's been very happy ever since.

On Sunday 16th September Katie and her litter brother Merlin were taken to a local Dog Fun Day in aid of Canine Partners. With a huge number of dogs of all breeds entered at the show and with classes much larger than any one would see at a breed Championship show the competition was fierce.

Katie was entered in the Prettiest Bitch class against 40 other bitches of many different breeds she went on to win the class, which is a huge achievement, especially as Bernese can often be over looked by more popular breeds.

Katie then went against all the other class winners for the Best in Show award and she won that too!!!!

Massive congratulations to the Brewer family for their amazing success with Katie.

You've still got it Katie, you may not be a top well known show dog anymore but you can still charm the judges!!

Millie Back on Form at Darlington Championship Show
Saturday 15th September 2012

Today we went to Newby House near Ripon in North Yorkshire for Darlington Championship show. The Benson's had come over from Ireland so it was lovely to see Bailey's litter brother McKenzie again.

In the puppy dog class McKenzie continued his winning ways and won the class with Bailey coming 3rd. Later in the Dog Challenge Philippa had the pleasure of handling McKenzie for Best Male Puppy.

Merlin in a large Limit Dog Class got a 5th and Millie, the star for us today, got a 2nd in a huge Limit Bitch class. This is the best she's done all season.

The weather was super, warm and dry, the company lovely and it was great to meet up with Amy's breeders, Lynn & Malcolm keegan who'd come along for the day. Such a shame I didn't have Amy with us but it was lovely for them to see three of her babies; litter brothers Bailey & McKenzie and our Merlin.

Lovely Day at Richmond Championship Show & Visit to Honey's Family
Saturday 8th September 2012

What a fantastic day we had today, the weather was glorious, maybe a tad hot for the Bern's but for us humans, just wonderful. Our first Championship show since Bath which has been warm and sunny and not muddy and for the first time a large grassy ring, oh what bliss. We actually used our sun umbrella's for the first time this year which proved to be fantastic in keeping the dogs cool, a very good investment they are.

Bailey who's still a little unsettled on the move got a 2nd in his Puppy Dog Class. Merlin in a large Limit Dog Class got into the final cut and was placed 5th which was wonderful. Anna thoroughly out of coat came for a ride out but wasn't show and Millie, who didn't want to show, got into the final cut in her huge Limit Bitch class but didn't make the final line up.

Our Judge Janet Riseborough wrote about Bailey saying: A 9 month, handsome youngster of equal qualities but not quite as positive on the move as my 1st.   Super head proportions, good ear placement, flat skull, slight furrow and correct stop.  Nice bone and body for this age, will come on more with time.

(Left - Right) Bailey being shown by Philippa - Philippa showing Merlin - Bailey and Chloe playing ringside

Afterwards we went to see Honey's family (Snow Litter) and spent a fantastic afternoon with them. It was lovely for Anna to see her litter sister again and for us to meet up with Honey's family and see how Honey is maturing. The girls had a super time running about the garden and playing, whilst the Bernese played and had fun. Michelle laid on a super lunch for us and made the most delicious Coffee & Walnut cake not to mention endless cups of tea, for which we were most grateful.

McKenzie takes Best Puppy In Breed - Birmingham City Champ Show
Saturday 1st September 2012

Our BaileyThe Benson's McKenzieToday we went to Stoneleigh Park for the Birmingham City Championship Show where we met up with the Benson's who'd come over from Ireland with Bailey's litter brother McKenzie. Bailey wasn't in the best frame of mind to put on a good performance in the ring so took a 4th in the same puppy dog class that his brother McKenzie won. McKenzie went on to take Best Male Puppy beating the Minor Puppy Dog class winner and then beat the Best Bitch Puppy taking Best Puppy in Breed. Merlin and Millie both got 3rd's in their respective Limit classes, which qualified Millie for Crufts 2013.

What a lovely day we had meeting up with old friends and the girls loved playing with Sophie Benson. For us it was wonderful to see McKenzie again who we've not seen for three months.

The judge Mark Wakeland wrote about McKenzie saying: At almost 10 months, this puppy is developing well and won a strong class. Good broad head, well marked, good size and enough bone and despite his tender age quickly becoming a consummate show dog. He has a good front with well placed shoulders and a strong, well angulated rear. Benefiting from being well handled he showed very well in all respects and moved with a well-sorted, easy gait. Pleased to award Best Puppy in Breed.

Best Puppy In Breed - Paignton Championship Show - Monday 6th August 2012

McKenzie aka Pasturegreen Irish Prince at Bernervalley getting Best Puppy in Breed at Paignton Championship Show on Monday 6th August 2012McKenzie is on a roll, today, two days later from his last lovely wins he won his Puppy Dog Class and then took Best Male Puppy and Best Puppy in Breed at Paignton Championship Show. Another huge well done to his owners Jackie & David Benson.

The judge Linda Stephenson wrote about McKenzie saying: Well balanced, good size with pleasing masculine head, bone and presentation. Has good depth, shape and outline. Moved and behaved well throughout his time in the ring.  Would have liked a darker eye but he has plenty of attributes to ensure a promising future.

Thank you to Jackie & David for once again flying the flag for Pasturegreen in such a wonderful way.

Exciting New Arrivals at Pasturegreen
Friday 20th July 2012

Not quite what you were expecting hey? the girls have wanted guinea pigs for a long time and finally Mervyn gave in, so with Chloe approaching her sixth birthday, two baby female guinea pigs have joined us here at Pasturegreen. Chloe's who is Brown and White is called Tinkerbell and Abbie's who is Grey and White is called Annabell and we know them as the Baby Bells. As of yet the Baby Bells and our Bernese haven't met but I'm sure they will in time.

Guess What? Yet Another Soggy Championship Show!!
East of England - Sunday 8th July 2012

People say when will it ever stop raining, well us show folk would just love to have dry feet for a change. Today we got up in the rain, drove to Peterborough in the rain, showed the dogs thankfully in the dry, went home in the rain and still it rains.Millie showing in the ring with Philippa

But we mustn't complain, at East of England lovely green carpeted rings with white fencing welcomed us in the indoor halls, which were airy and clean, if a tiny bit warm and lacking in space. The ring could have been twice the size but at least we were dry and mud free.

Bailey won his Minor Puppy Dog class, obtaining another three Junior Warrant Points. Merlin got a 5th in his big Limit Dog Class. Anna got a 3rd in her Graduate Bitch class, and Millie got a 5th in her large Limit bitch class.

As we were in the ring at 9am, we were all done by 12 noon and heading home, as our most local show it was nice to be home so early, for a change, even if it was still raining.

Our Judge Jeff Horswell wrote about Bailey saying: Has a very good shape with correct proportions.  Well balanced head with flat skull and correct width of skull for age.  Good neck with well laid shoulder.  Long ribs and a firm topline.  Just needs to develop.  Very promising.

Windsor Championship Dog Show
Thursday 28th June 2012

After the huge disappointment of Blackpool Championship Dog Show being cancelled on Sunday it was nice to be back in the ring at Windsor especially as we had dry weather, if a tad warm at times. The M25 was awful getting to Windsor but thankfully Mervyn had had the forethought to leave extra early and we still got there an hour before judging commenced.

Bailey was moving beautifully today, now considerably taller than any other Bernese puppies' in the ring he was a joy to show and got a 2nd in his Minor Puppy Dog Class. Merlin feeling the heat a bit more and being such a solid dog got a 4th in Limit Dog. Anna was a bit bouncer than of late but still got a 3rd in Special Yearling Bitch and sadly Millie putting on a super display was unplaced in her big Limit bitch class. Four fantastic Bernese as usual a joy to show and own.

Great Day at Southern Bernese Mountain Dog Club
Championship Show - Sunday 10th June 2012

Today we went to Leatherhead Leisure Centre for the SBMDC Championship show, we'd hoped that the show would be held out on the grassy playing field but the committee were concerned about forecasted rain later in the day so decided to hold the show indoors. What was most appreciated was that Dogs and then Bitches were judged which meant that Philippa wasn't having to jump rings all day.

Philippa showing BaileyHarvey came for a ride out, because we'd entered Amy there was no way he was going to be stopping at home on his own, regardless of how much human company he had. We'd hoped to have been able to have had him outside but the ground was just too soggy, but he was happy dozing and watching the world go by in the van with some of the others.

Bailey was on a roll, he won his Minor Puppy Dog Class picking up three Junior Warrant points, he then won his Novice Dog Class picking up another three points. He then took Best Male Puppy in Show.

Merlin got a 3rd in his Mid Limit Class and then won the Breeders Dog Class. Anna was a complete darling in the ring once again and got a 2nd in her Special Yearling Bitch class and a 3rd in the Breeders Bitch class.

Millie got a 2nd in her Mid Limit Bitch Class and then Amy along with Merlin, Anna and Bailey won the Progeny Bitch class for the second year running.

So you could say we done okay?! A lovely day meeting up with friends, which was soon over.

Our Judge Richard Hallam wrote about our dogs saying:

(Bailey) Pasturegreen Irish Cream.  7 month old developing well with a reasonable head for age. Stands and moves well with good shoulders and correct rear angulation and super tailset. Plenty of time for maturing. Handling and presentation A1 which made him a pleasure to go over. Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

(Merlin) Pasturegreen Trick Or Treat.   Medium sized dog with good bone and a pleasing outline. Good broad skull, stop and dark eye. Good bone and excellent lay of shoulder, reasonable rear angulation. Not overdone in any way.  Moved well both ways and presented in A1 condition.

(Anna) Pasturegreen Snow White.   Another quality bitch, medium sized with a pleasing overall outline. Good strong feminine head, good bone and angulation. Pleasing outline which she kept on the move. Another bitch that has a lot to like.

(Millie) Fortonpark Millie My Love At Pasturegreen.   Mid-sized, very pretty bitch with a sweet expression.  Good bone and well angulated.  A well finished and well-constructed girl which enabled her to move with ease.  Presented in A1 condition.

(Amy) Malynncastle Ambriel At Pasturegreen.   A mid-sized bitch with three of her progeny of various ages, all to type. (Shown with Bailey, Merlin and Anna)

Mega Wet Day at Three Counties Championship Show
Thursday 7th June 2012

(L-R) Millie, Anna & BaileyMy goodness, we got up at 3.30am, travelled 3½ hours to the Three Counties Showground at Malvern, where it was still raining, then got totally soaked though waiting for the committee to find the key to unlock the main gate. It is so very disheartening when you have taken ages to wash and dry the dogs only for them to be getting soaked though and their lovely white paws all muddy just because someone can't find a key to unlock a gate. Eventually after a 20 minute wait the key was found and into the showground we went. The venue was in a right state, the floor of the marquee was covered in bits, from screws to bits of plastic, fag butts etc. so it was a case of clearing a soggy patch and hoping that the dogs didn't find anything to eat.

Philippa got soaked though and remained that way during the day, the girls had wet feet and I think Mervyn was the only one to manage okay. It was the first time we've supported this show and it could well be the last!

We were thrilled with Anna for she stood really confidently for Joanna Sutton our Judge, even though she didn't get placed we were thrilled with her. Merlin got a 4th in his Limit Dog Class, Bailey got a 3rd in his Puppy Dog class and Millie got a 5th in her Limit Bitch class.

It wasn't long before we were on our way home, with it still raining.

Rainy Day At Southern Counties Championship Show
Sunday 3rd June 2012

What a contrast in weather to last Sunday, when it was hot and dry, today was chilly, wet and not at all pleasant, which really matched the rather strange judging from our Finish Judge, who had a major liking for withholding placings without a reason. It really was quite a job to understand exactly what he was looking for?

Merlin was the star of the day getting a 2nd in his Limit Dog class against 11, what a darling. As always our show team which consists of Bailey aka Pasturegreen Irish Cream, Merlin aka Pasturegreen Trick or Treat, Anna aka Pasturegreen Snow White & Millie aka Fortonpark Millie My Love At Pasturegreen did us proud and of course one always brings the best dogs home.

Anna Qualifies For Crufts 2013
At Bath Championship Show - Sunday 27th May 2012

What a hot day at Bath it was, so unlike many years when it's been chilly and wet and very different to all the recent weather we've had. A rather strange day in the ring, firstly Bath Championship Show mark out the rings with tape on the ground which in my opinion isn't great as you get people wandering across the ring and without a waist high tape around the ring it doesn't feel like a ring, more an open piece of grass?

Bailey enjoyed himself in the ring and got a 3rd in his Minor Puppy Dog Class. Anna was so much better today in the ring and stood for the judge so she was rewarded with a 3rd in her Junior Bitch class which qualified her for Crufts 2013, so we're thrilled. Merlin and Millie showed very nicely but most surprisingly weren't placed in their big limit classes, but hey ho another week another dog show another story and after all it was only that Judge's opinion.

Boys Rule at Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show
Sunday 20th May 2012

We had a lovely day today at the Central Bernese Mountain Dog Club Open Show, held at Overseal near Burton on Trent, the weather was cool but perfect for the dogs and a really friendly atmosphere surrounded the event.

We took our six Bernese with us, Harvey was entered Not For Competition so spent the day lazing around, but the other five all showed in the Open Show and Anna was entered for one class in the Companion Show, where she got a 3rd in Any Variety Yearling.

Bailey won his Minor Puppy Dog Class and took Best Male Puppy, so got one Junior Warrant Point. Merlin won his Post Graduate Class and was a strong contender in the Dog Challenge later on. Keela and her family came along to the show and Philippa handled her in the Minor Puppy Bitch Class where she got a 1st. Anna was still a little unsure and got a 4th in Junior Bitch, Millie was her usual over excited self and got a 4th in her Post Graduate class and Amy made a rare appearance in the show ring, making her feelings very well known that she doesn't like showing and got a 5th in her Limit Bitch class, so the boys did better than the girls today.

Keela was entered for three classes in the Companion show and was handled by Mum Jeanie. It was great to see Keela and her family, Keela is our Bailey's litter sister from the Irish litter.

Our friends Brian & Bridget came along to see us and our Bernese and proved to be very good child minders for our girls, who had a great time, especially at the nearby playground.

Our Judge Mark Avery wrote about our dogs & Bailey's litter sister Keela saying:

(Bailey) Pasturegreen Irish Cream.  6 months old. Still a baby. Has a nice face with a lovely dark eye. Nice markings. Very well presented. Best mover in the class. Lost out in the Puppy challenge as not as mature as the bitch. Best Puppy Dog.

(Merlin) Pasturegreen Trick or Treat.  2 ½ years old. Presented in lovely condition with a lovely coat. Lovely head with nice eyes and full of expression, very attentive to his handler. Nice overall shape with good bend of stifles. Moved well with good balance but like some others can move wide at the front. Considered him in the challenge but not the maturity of the Open class dogs. Will be interested to see how he matures.

(Keela) Hexter’s Pasturegreen Irish Beauty.  6 months old. A very raw baby but with a happy temperament. Nice feminine head with nice white markings throughout. OK for bone. Moved OK but a little bit bouncy at times.

Irish Boys Qualify for Crufts 2013
Birmingham National Champ Show - Friday 11th May 2012

Another week, another show, that's how the show season works and for us our 2012 show season is just beginning. It was Bailey's first show and his litter Brother McKenzie's first British Champ show, who'd come over from Ireland with Mum Jackie. The boys, who were out of our Irish Litter, were both in the first class of the day, Minor Puppy Dog where McKenzie took 1st Place and Bailey took 2nd place. In the next class Puppy Dog, McKenzie got a 1st place and in turn Best Male Puppy, expertly handled by Nicola Macgregor. We are so thrilled that both brothers have now qualified for Crufts 2013.

(Left - Right) Bailey (Pasturegreen Irish Cream) McKenzie (Pasturegreen Irish Prince at Bernervalley)
Merlin (Pasturegreen Trick or Treat) Anna (Pasturegreen Snow White)

Merlin, our handsome lad took a 3rd in his Post Graduate Dog class and silly Anna was just too silly about being gone over today and so was unplaced, oh that dog is so Frustrating!!

Abbie who had left home seemingly okay, became poorly over the course of the day with Chickenpox, which Chloe has just recovered from.

Another lovely sociable show but a long exhausting day for the dogs.

(Left - Right) McKenzie - Merlin - Bailey - Anna

Our Judge Julie Baldwin wrote about McKenzie & Bailey saying:

(McKenzie)  Benson's Pasturegreen Irish Prince At Bernervalley.  A nice 6 month old puppy dog of correct overall shape, short coupled with adequate bone for size.  Good head shape with good width of muzzle, correct bite, eye a shade light.  Moved very well with lovely side gait, well handled, excellent temperament.

(Bailey)  Green's Pasturegreen Irish Cream.  Litter brother to 1st and much of the same remarks. Not quite as forward in maturity but these two will change places many times and show lots of promise.

Lovely Day at Bernese Mountain Dog Club of GB
Open Show - Sunday 15th April 2012

Merlin Handled by PhilippaMerlin Left & Bailey RightToday we went to Grenoside, Sheffield for the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain Open Show. Always a lovely friendly venue with super homemade food on sale and a warm welcoming atmosphere. We took Merlin, Millie, Anna & Bailey. Bailey is still too young to be shown but it was good for him to be at the show and experience all the proceedings.

Anna being Handled by PhilippaMillie being Handled by PhilippaUnder our judge, Lisa Ebnet, Merlin got a 3rd in his Post Graduate Dog Class. Anna got a 2nd in her Junior Bitch Class. Millie got a 1st in the Not Bred by Exhibitor Bitch Class and a 3rd in her Post Graduate Bitch Class. During the lunch break we showed in the Special Members Awards, where our judge was Lena Pawlyszyn, Anna got a 1st in the Junior Class, Millie got a 5th in the Post Graduate Class and Merlin got a 5th in the Open Class.

The highlight of the day, apart from the dogs doing so well, was I finally encouraged Chloe to take Merlin into the Junior Handling, for sometime she's just flatly refused to take part but today she decided she wanted to. Merlin was a darling, very good and made things easy for Chloe. Anna being handled by PhilippaChloe handling MerlinChloe was thrilled as she got a 2nd place and therefore got a Blue Rosette, her favourite colour.

Millie we decided to take just for a ride out because being a bit on the skinny side and out of coat she was hardly looking her best, but when we where there we put her in her pre-entered classes and were amazed at how well she did, I guess a Bernese doesn't need a really good coat to get an award?

We had a lovely surprise in that Brian & Bridget came to see us and the dogs at the show, we weren't expecting to see them, so it was lovely when they came wandering into the show.

Our Judge Lisa Ebnet from USA wrote about our dogs saying:

(Merlin) Pasturegreen Trick Or Treat.  Medium sized male. A bit unsure. Head is pleasing. Moves a bit toed in the front at pasterns. Shoulder a bit straight and could use a bit more rear angle. Coat is the desirable straight black with rich rust and clean white.

(Anna) Pasturegreen Snow White.  Medium sized female with nice bone for her size. She presented a bit reluctant. She has moderate angulation both front and rear. Topline has a bit soft and not as solid as 1st place. Move free on side gait. Coat is straight and full. Tail proper length and carried out.

(Millie) Fortonpark Millie My Love At Pasturegreen.  This girl was out of coat but you could see her nice construction. Could use a bit more bone for her size. Tail carriage was down and out. Moved clean going but toed out a bit coming. Would like a more back skull. A happy girl!

Our Judge Leena Pawlyszyn wrote about Anna saying: Bitch 14mths of medium size with adequate bone. Good head with almond shaped eyes and pleasing expression. Correct markings. Had the best tail carriage. Moved Ok.

Merlin Qualifies For Crufts 2013
Sunday 25th March 2012
Northern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Championship Show

Philippa Showing MerlinPhilippa Showing Anna

We are thrilled and delighted that our fabulous Merlin has qualified himself for Crufts 2013 today at the Northern Bernese Mountain Dog Club Championship show at My Pet Stop, Tingley, Leeds by getting a 2nd in his Post Graduate Dog class under judge Mrs C.E Cartledge.

Anna was her usual silly self, rather full of it but still managed to take a 4th in her Junior Bitch Class.

It was our puppy, Bailey's first outing to a Bernese dog event and he was so very good, a complete saint really. What was fantastic was that his brother McKenzie was over from Ireland with his family the Benson's, Bailey and McKenzie are like identical twins and his sister Keela came to visit too with her family. Had Murphy not lived so far away and been able to come along too we would have had a full litter reunion but as it was it was just super to see both McKenzie and Keela.

The girls were also delighted that their special friend Sophie had come along to the dog show from Ireland the three of them spent many happy hours playing together, whilst us adults thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect of dog showing and meeting up with many friends.

Sociable Day Out At Crufts
Saturday 10th March 2012

Philippa showing Merlin aka Pasturegreen Trick Or TreatSharon showing Yogi aka Pasturegreen Snow StormCrufts is always a long day and this year was no exception, we got up at 3am and were left by 3.45am and weren't home until after 8pm.

Even though we'd entered Millie, (Fortonpark Millie My Love At Pasturegreen) Merlin (Pasturegreen Trick Or Treat) and Anna (Pasturegreen Snow White), Millie had dropped her coat a few days prior to Crufts, so was unable to go. Merlin's litter sister Beth (Pasturegreen Magic Wand) and Anna's litter brother Yogi (Pasturegreen Snow Storm) were both there along with their families.

Becky showing Beth aka Pasturegreen Magic WandCrufts is held at the NEC in Birmingham and as usual we were in Hall 5. It was great to meet up and natter to lots of friends as we've not shown since last September. The dogs were fantastically well behaved, even Anna who can sometimes be a little unsettled in nosy confined places. Honey's family from the Snow Litter and our friends Brian & Bridget also came along to give us some moral support, which was greatly appreciated.

First in the ring was Yogi, he was in Special Junior Dog, where expertly handled by Mum Sharon he took a 5th. Then it was Merlin's turn, a fault free performance from our darling lad in his Mid Limit Dog class which saw him in the cards until the 11th hour when the judge swopped the 5th & 6th placed dogs around, which pushed Merlin out of the cards.

Then it was Anna's turn, our youngster can be a little spooky at times and did really well to remain calm in the ring, in her Special Junior Bitch class, with so much noise and people around her, so we were thrilled with her getting a fourth. Then it was Beth's turn, entered in Post Graduate Bitch she too also got a 5th and handled expertly by Mum Becky.

With 209 Bernese entered at Crufts this year, we feel very proud that three of our four dogs showing on the day were placed. We were also most proud of the way that Sharon, Yogi's Mum and Becky, Beth's Mum handled their nerves and showed their dogs so professionally, you done us proud ladies.

Happy Birthday Amy - 5th Today. Amy (Malynncastle Ambriel At Pasturegreen) has been with us since she was eight weeks old. Amy is our amazing retired brood bitch the Mother of 21 fantastic puppies from three litters; The Halloween Litter, The Snow Litter & The Irish Litter. We had the most lovely of sunny days here in Norfolk to celebrate Amy's birthday.

Happy Sixth Birthday Harvey
Sunday 5th February 2012

Today our Harvey (Pasturegreen SOS) is Six Years Old. Harvey is the oldest of our Bernese here at Pasturegreen and the Great Uncle of them all. Never a father himself he proves to be a very loyal and loving Great Uncle towards them all, that is once he's got used to having new baby puppies around.

Harvey and us all here at Pasturegreen were in for a super treat on Sunday for over night we'd had five inches of snow. For Bernese it's a homecoming when there is snow on the ground and with their semi web feet they are very sure footed in the white stuff.

Bernese seem to be quite wild when their paws are on snow and all our Bernese were revved up and full of mischief, having a fantastic time galloping about and playing.

We took our five older Bernese out with the girls on their sledge and later took our young pup Bailey who's 13 weeks old out for a short wander so that he too could have a play without getting knocked over by his wild older family members.

Those of our Team Pasturegreen families who had snow were kind enough to send us their snowy pictures to see our 2012 Team Pasturegreen Snow Feature click the link below:

Katie Goes To Live with Our Good Friends The Brewers
Tuesday 10th January 2012

After many months of careful consideration regarding our beloved Katie it was decided that she'd have a more exciting and fulfilling life if she went to live with our good friends the Brewers who own her litter brother, the other Merlin. Katie had an amazing start to her show career in 2010, winning several Best Puppy in Breed awards at her first few Championship shows and was totally unbeaten, but then suddenly overnight her teeth moved, it was tragic for her show career was over in an instant. If there was ever a puppy born for the show ring it was Katie, she just loved everything about being shown, a true performer. She will always be known as the Champion that never was.

During 2011 we tried to encourage Katie to take to carting so that she could have a working career and it would give her something to do, but she wasn't keen. For Katie to be left at home when others went showing came as a hardship for her and made her unhappy. Katie had it all, size, construction, temperament, Katie at Two Yearsmovement and it would have been lovely to have had a litter from Katie but with her teeth as they were it was deemed not a sensible move and so it was decided that Katie would probably be much happier living in a pet home where she'd get a lot more one to one attention. For us it's the first time that any puppy kept by us has been re homed later on in life but for us we don't feel as if we've lost Katie more that she's gone to live with our good friends and is having a better quality of life. Sometimes one has to do the right thing for the dog and be unselfish in one's own wants.

We thank our good friends the Brewers for agreeing to have Katie and for giving her a good life and for changing their initial plans on their second Bernese. Katie will still be out and about at Bernese club working and fun events having a great time doing lots of fun classes with the Brewer children and of course living so near we'll get to see and her brother Merlin lots too.

We miss Katie terribly but we are comforted in the knowledge that we've done the right thing for Katie and we know that she's having a great time with the Brewers, for which we are very grateful.

New Baby Here at Pasturegreen
Pasturegreen Irish Cream aka Bailey

Bailey is from our Amy's last litter, the Irish litter, sired by Irish Champion Kinelarty Midnight Star Gaze aka Harvey.

Bailey is our 8th Bernese puppy to be reared by us here at Pasturegreen. He has a super calm nature and is very well behaved.

Here is Bailey pictured at 8 weeks, he's very much like our Merlin, his half brother, also an Amy pup in that he likes to doze and eat and isn't too demanding for attention.

We excitedly look forward to the future with Bailey who we hope to show from six months of age.
